Among the Protestants
In my previous substack, I mentioned the Center for Public Justice’s 27th Annual Kuyper Lecture that I had the privilege of giving earlier this month at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI. The Center for Public Justice “is the leading Christian nonpartisan think tank and civic education organization advancing principles and policies that support a pluralistic society.” My lecture was titled “In Search of the Radical Middle-Navigating Populism and Progressivism.”
The center has now made the recording and text of the lecture available on its website. I am happy to refer anyone interested in this theme to them. “How should Christians navigate these political shifts? What insights can be gained from neo-Calvinist thought?” I also recommend the papers presented by co-speakers Ruth Melkonian-Hoover, Ph.D., a professor in the Political Science Department at Gordon College, and David Koyzis, affiliated with Global Scholars Canada.
I hope to return to their valuable points later. In the recording, I have already responded to some thoughtful questions from Stephanie Summers, the evening’s chair and CEO of the Center for Public Justice, and several remarks from the audience. I was particularly honored to have the Noah Porter Professor Emeritus of Philosophical Theology Divinity School and Religious Studies at Yale University, Nicholas Wolterstorff, among my audience.
As indicated in my previous substack, the lecture was a “happy occasion,” thanks partly to the three conferences at Calvin University the week in question. I found myself there (again) conversing with various very knowledgeable Protestant colleagues on the lecture’s theme. I hope to benefit from their generous feedback and insights in my writing projects and public speaking. Hopefully, something of this fruitful nature of the event already resonates in the recording and text of the lecture.
